Grottaglie, in Apulia, hosts the Leonardo plant that produces the Boeing 787 fuselage sections 44 and 46 in carbon composite — one of the few sites worldwide manufacturing one-piece barrel sections of that size. Taranto-Grottaglie airport also hosts Italy's first spaceport, dedicated to suborbital flights and reusable vehicle testing.
The basin therefore combines large-scale composite work, the associated metallic assemblies and emerging space activity. Kronos Engineering operates on the metallic interfaces: bore cold working on fittings and frames, shot peening of junction parts, precision boring and surface replica for post-repair inspection.
