Italy is Europe's fourth aerospace industry and one of the few to cover the whole chain: airframe and aerostructures, propulsion, helicopters, space and launchers. The industrial base splits between Lombardy and Piedmont (aircraft, helicopters, engines, space), Campania around Pomigliano d'Arco and Naples (aerostructures and engine parts), Apulia around Grottaglie and Foggia (composite fuselage barrels), and Lazio for system integration and launchers.

Kronos Engineering serves Italy on a travel basis from Bordeaux — team and tooling on site within 24 hours in northern Italy by road, with no customs formalities since we stay inside the European Union. We operate directly for industrial customers and airlines, and as a subcontractor or embedded on-site team for prime contractors and approved organisations, within the NADCAP Surface Enhancement, EN 9100 / AS9100 and PART-145 frameworks.

Aerostructures and assembly. Grottaglie and Foggia (composite fuselage barrels and empennages), Pomigliano d'Arco and Nola (metallic aerostructures), Varese and Venegono (transport and training aircraft). Attachment fittings, spars and frames fall directly within shot peening to AMS 2430 and cold working to BACC 5060.

Engine makers and rotating parts. Rivalta and Brindisi (low-pressure modules, blades and disks), Pomigliano (engine components). Critical titanium and superalloy parts requiring Almen saturation curves and a full process qualification dossier.

Rotary wing. The Lombard helicopter cluster (Cascina Costa, Vergiate, Sesto Calende) — hubs, blades, gearboxes and landing gear, where flapper peening and roto peening allow rework without disassembly.

Space and launchers. Turin (satellite and orbital module integration) and Colleferro (launchers and solid propulsion). This scope is subject to customer authorisation — we describe such missions generically.

Naval and defence. Yards at Monfalcone, Marghera, Sestri Ponente, Riva Trigoso and Castellammare di Stabia — thick welded structures within HFMI and needle peening scope.

Rail and automotive. Rolling stock in Pistoia, Naples and Savigliano (bogies, axles, springs); the Motor Valley between Modena and Bologna and the Turin cluster (springs, conrods, shafts, gears) — the historic heartland of shot peening.

Energy and oil & gas. Turbomachinery in Florence and Massa, Adriatic offshore at Ravenna, and floating wind projects in the Mediterranean (Sicily, Sardinia, Apulia) — flanges, towers and welded anchoring points within HFMI scope.

HFMI on floater, flange and anchoring welds — treating fatigue crack initiation sites during fabrication.

Is Kronos Engineering NADCAP certified in Italy?+
Kronos Engineering does not itself hold a NADCAP, EN 9100 or PART-145 approval. We deliver the processes within those frameworks: directly for industrial customers, or as a subcontractor and embedded on-site team for prime contractors and approved organisations, under their quality system and their approval. We also prepare Italian organisations for their own NADCAP audit.
How fast can you intervene in Italy from Bordeaux?+
Team and tooling on site within 24 hours in Turin, Milan and Varese by road, within 48 hours for Naples, Apulia and Sicily. No customs formalities — we stay inside the European Union. For an AOG emergency, the 24/7 line is answered in under 2 hours.
Do you work in Italian?+
Fieldwork and technical documentation are delivered in English, the standard working language of the Italian aerospace industry, as well as in French and Spanish. Training material can be adapted for Italian-speaking operators on request.
Can you supply FTI cold expansion tooling in Italy?+
Yes. Kronos Engineering is an official FTI (Fatigue Technology) partner and supplies genuine tooling — mandrels, split sleeves, gauges, pullers — together with process qualification to BACC 5060 and operator training. We also master the split mandrel process, so the technology choice stays objective.
Do you treat welds on naval structures and floating wind?+
Yes. HFMI (high-frequency mechanical impact) and needle peening apply to thick weld beads on hulls, superstructures, floaters and anchoring flanges, following IIW 2016 recommendations and EN 1993-1-9. Treatment is carried out in the shop, alongside, or at the fabrication site.
